Moving to the Isle of Wight is not like moving anywhere else in Britain, because there is a stretch of water in the way. The good news is that for our customers the Solent is our problem, not yours. Mew The Movers has been taking Island moves across the water for over a century, and this guide explains exactly how it works.

Which ferry does the removal lorry use?

Removal vehicles cross on the vehicle ferries: Wightlink from Portsmouth to Fishbourne, or Red Funnel from Southampton to East Cowes. Both take our fleet, from 3.5 tonne vans up to our 18 tonne lorries. The Lymington to Yarmouth route suits smaller vans on west Wight moves. As members of the British Association of Removers with a century of crossings behind us, we know the sailings, the loading decks and the booking quirks inside out.

Is the ferry included in the quote?

Yes. When we quote for a move to or from the mainland, the crossing is arranged by us and included in your quotation. You do not book anything, and you do not pay the ferry company separately. You simply travel on whichever sailing suits you, and your belongings travel with our crew.

How far in advance should I book?

For moves involving a crossing we recommend booking as soon as your completion date firms up, ideally two to three weeks ahead. Fridays, month ends and the summer holidays are the busiest times on both the ferries and our diary. Short notice moves are often possible, so always ask.

What happens if the weather affects the sailings?

It is rare for the vehicle ferries to stop running for long. Because we cross the Solent constantly, we build sensible margins into moving day and keep you informed if a sailing is disrupted. In over a hundred years, the sea has not kept us from a move for long.

Does a mainland move cost more than an Island move?

A crossing adds ferry costs and time, so a mainland move costs more than the same move within the Island. Where you can save is on timing: if your dates are flexible, ask us about the most economical days to move, as mid week and mid month moves are often better value.

Can you move me anywhere in the UK?

Yes. We run removals between the Isle of Wight and the whole of the UK. One crew, one vehicle, door to door, with packing and storage available at either end.

Here at Mew The Movers, we’re local, Island experts and proud members of the British Association of Removals (BAR), are here to make your Isle of Wight removal stress-free, so here’s some guidance on choosing the best company to fit your needs to make your life a little easier!

What to Consider When Choosing a Moving Company for removals to and from the Isle of Wight

Before we dive into details, let’s outline key factors to consider when selecting a moving company for your Isle of Wight relocation. This includes checking credentials, understanding total costs, weighing DIY versus professional services, choosing the right booking time, opting for eco-friendly practices, and addressing common FAQs.

Tips for Finding a Reliable Moving Company

When seeking a reliable moving company on the Isle of Wight, options abound, making the decision overwhelming. Start with a Google search, read reviews, request quotes from several companies, and check their insurance coverage and accreditation. Leaning on personal recommendations can also provide valuable insights.

Here’s just a few ways to help you identify the right provider:

Online Research: Conduct a Google search for Isle of Wight removal companies, focusing on those with high ratings. Make sure you read the more in-depth written reviews to get a more honest idea of their service, rather than relying on their overall star rating.

Quotes and Accreditation: Request quotes from several companies and be cautious of hidden fees. Mew The Movers, as BAR members, guarantees professionalism and adherence to industry standards.

Insurance: Ensure the moving company has comprehensive insurance coverage and follows quality and customer care protocols. Any good removals company should provide this without any hassle whatsoever.

Personal Recommendations: Lean on friends, family, or professional contacts for referrals. Mew The Movers has built a solid reputation within the Isle of Wight community.

Cost Factors: How to Budget for Your Isle of Wight Move

Budgeting for your Isle of Wight move requires a realistic assessment of your property and belongings. While bargain prices may be tempting, ensure your quote is clear with no hidden fees.

The Best Time to Book a Isle of Wight Moving Company

Timing is crucial when booking your Isle of Wight moving company. Start planning about four-six months before your move date, considering the demand for different times of year. Early planning helps tackle unforeseen challenges, and getting quotes promptly ensures a smooth process.

FAQs Before Hiring a Removal company here on the Island:

Q: How do I choose a reliable Isle of Wight moving company?

A: Ensure reliability by researching reviews, checking for licenses and insurance, and seeking referrals when selecting a trustworthy moving company on the Isle of Wight. Word of mouth is powerful and you’ll quickly get a good summary of the company in question!

Q: What factors affect the cost of moving to or from the Isle of Wight?

A: Various factors, such as distance, volume of belongings, moving date, and additional services required, can influence the cost of your move.

Q: Should I hire professional movers or move alone on the Isle of Wight?

A: Opting for professional movers is convenient and stress-reducing, while moving alone can be cost-effective, especially for small moves or those on a tight budget. Peace of mind with an insured removal company is also a huge help.

Q: When is the best time to book an Isle of Wight moving company?

A: To secure your preferred moving date and potentially save money, it’s advisable to book an Isle of Wight moving company well in advance, particularly during peak seasons. If you’re moving to or from the Island, it’s important to book in advance to ensure ferry crossing times and the like.

Q: How can I make my Isle of Wight move more environmentally friendly?

A: Prioritize sustainability by choosing an Isle of Wight mover committed to eco-friendly practices. Additionally, recycle packing materials and consider donating unwanted items to minimize waste.
